The elderly today are living for a longer time than ever. The National Institute on The aging process and the U. S. Census Bureau, tasks that, when the year 2050 rolls around nearly 9 , 000, 000 people will probably be 90 years old. (Levy, 2012) A greater lifestyle expectency appears good, but the elderly will be facing various challenges, physical limitations, medical problems, financial concerns and the requirement for help with someday to day time activites. (Levy, 2012)
Elderly individuals ordinarily have a number of serious conditions just like diabetes, arthritis, and arteriosclerosis. Elders differ greatly in the degree by which chronic circumstances affect their particular functional capabilities. Limitations in functional activities increase with all the aging process. Elders aged 65-75 years old are often healthier than persons 75 and more mature. Persons seventy five or older, often called to because the " frail elderlyвЂќ appear particularly in need of health care services and signify the quickest growing segment of the populace. According to the National Center pertaining to Health Statistics, 85% percent of the seniors population old 65 to 69 statement no trouble self-care actions or walking, only 66% of elders aged 80 to 84years and 51% of elders aged eighty five or elderly could report similar levels of well-being. (Guccione) This signals us to the fact that caring for the elderly is and may continue to be an expanding concern.
The very fact that the older usually have persistent illnesses that needs to be treated leads to the fact that the majority of our elderly population cannot afford the heatltcare costs associatted with their needs. The elderly living alone include issues taking good care of medical. meals and enclosure needs. Without the help of children and family, many of our seniors suffer.
